LECTURE

We were introduced to Adobe After Effects and Mr. Fauzi also explained to us on how to use After Effects.

After Effects is a animation software that can be used to make animation, visual effects, and motion picture compositing. It usually works in film, TV, and web video creation. It is also used as the post-production phase to manipulate imagery. Therefore, it allows us to combine contents into a scene altogether.

Motion graphics animation is made by manipulating vector and rasterized art to create a storyline.

Photoshop can also be used to compose the layers of elements, before moving it to After Effects. The layers has to be organized to make it easier to animate in After Effects.

PRACTICAL

We were assigned to practice making animation in After Effects. We were told to make use of rotating, scaling, and positioning our animation elements. Firstly, I started by creating different folders with different names and placing the composition in those folders, so I can be more organized. Then I made the duration of my animation to 15 seconds.

After settling my animation to 15 seconds, I started animating the circle on the top of the animation by making it rotate with a 45 degree angle. Then I copied and pasted the keys to the end of the animation, so that it can be a loop and rotate back. I then continued to animate the circle below by scaling it down from 100% to 90% and back to 100%. I also added a full rotation on the circle, so that it will rotate as it was scaling up and down.

For the final touches, I adjusted the fish to several positions. So that it will start from the center then continue to the left and then it will go up. I copied the keys from the beginning, just so the video will loop.

REFLECTION

This week, I got to learn how to use After Effects and also how to make a simple animation. I was very excited to start working on this task, since I have a interest in animation. During the making of the animation, I realized that some there are some details that we needed to pay attention on to make a good animation. I have also seen many of my peers works and I was surprised on how different we all incorporated the skills we achieved from the tutorial Mr. Fauzi gave into our animation. I also noticed that I have a strong interest in making animations, additionally I liked seeing the process and the progress I made while animating. I have learned the basic skill to animate in After Effects and I hope I can learn much more about the different features in After Effects in the upcoming future.
