LECTURES
Week 11
We were given some case studies to observe and learn from.
Week 13
We were given some video tutorials on how to remove green screen, use blending
mode, and also how to use the puppet tool in After Effects.
PRACTICAL
We were told to make a animation that is 15 seconds long. The animation will
be based on our imagination and these questions:
1. My Biography
Figure 1.1.1 biography (03/12/2024, week 11)
2. The Statement of My Work
Figure 1.1.2 statement of my work (03/12/2024, week 11)
After developing my idea and writing the statement and biography of myself, I
continued to gather some posters that had the same concept that I am aiming
for. Here are my poster references:

Then I decided to develop my idea and sketched it with the help of a few
pictures as reference. Here are the pictures I used as reference to help me
sketch the elements on my idea:

Here are the sketches I came up with:
Figure 1.1.5 sketches (03/12/2024, week 11)
Description:
#1 For my first sketch, I decided to make myself look at the sky.
But, I will use surrealism to manipulate the sky and transform it into a
galaxy or a solar system. The concept of this sketch is to show the
motivation I have to succeed and have a future that I have always hoped for.
The shooting star is a symbol of a wish, a wish that the future that I hoped
for will come true.
#2 My second sketch is a little different, I still wanted to show the
same concept. But, I implemented it differently by transforming my eye into
a galaxy or solar system. The planets still represent the same thing as the
other ideas, which is a future that I will work towards to and a future that
I hope will happen.
#3 The last sketch I made has the same idea as the first idea, but I
made a few adjustments. The first adjustment that I made is by changing the
shooting star as a rocket, so that it shows more aspects of a galaxy. The
second one is a change in height of the platform. The planets also have the
same meaning behind it, which will represent the future that I hope will
happen and also the people that I want to make proud of.
After Mr. Fauzi saw my sketches, he recommended me to proceed with my first
sketch. So after my sketch was approved, I took some pictures with the help
of my friend so I can start my digital sketch. During the time when I was
taking my pictures, there are some changes I made. First, I used a book as a
prop to further emphasize the drive I have to succeed in my studies. So that
I can build the future I have always hoped for and the dreams I have always
wanted to achieve. I changed reaching out to the sky to holding a book and
that was the only change I made. Here is my photo that has been taken and
also the digital sketch progress that I made:

After finishing the digital sketch I made, I moved to photoshop and started
to digitize my picture. To do so, I first compiled all the images from the
internet that I needed to use as the elements and the background for my
surrealism poster. Here are the images that I used for my poster as the
background and elements:
Then I started to digitize my work in photoshop, first I made the background
into a galaxy full of stars. To do so, I overlayed my image over the
background and then I used the select and mask to select the background. I
used the onion skin view option and reduced the opacity to help me edit the
background. The tools I used in select and mask are the quick selection tool
and the brush tool.

Next, I decided to remove the shadows in my pictures. To remove them I first
created a new layer, then I used the patch tool to select my shadow and
replaced them into the concrete near the shadow. To make it much smoother, I
used the remove tool to select and fix the small mistakes. After I was
satisfied with the results, I continued to make a new layer for my shadows.
The shadows was made by using the brush tool. Which I then blurred using the
gaussian blur filter. I also used the subtract option to make the shadow
look more realistic.
Figure 1.2.3 step 2 photoshop (15/12/2024, week 12)
Then I used the adjustment layer levels option to fix the lighting of my
picture and clip masked it.
Figure 1.2.4 step 3 photoshop (15/12/2024, week 12)
Figure 1.2.5 step 4 photoshop (15/12/2024, week 12)
I then finished off with adding the shadow of the pole, using the same tools
and technique I used to make my shadow. But, to make this shadow I used the
line tool too. Then I started making the overall shadow base using the line
and brush tool, then I used the gaussian blur filter, and finished of by
using the subtract option to make it look more realistic. Since the pole has
2 arcs on the very top, I used 2 layers to make the shadow of the pole. So,
there is one layer for the main pole and another for the arcs.

FINAL SELF-TITLED POSTER
Figure 1.2.7 final self-titled poster (15/12/2024, week 12)
After finishing the poster, I started to move it to After Effects. Firstly,
I created some folders to put my footages and audios in to keep it organized
and made the duration of the animation to 15 seconds.
Figure 1.3.1 step 1 after effects (20/12/2024, week 13)
Then I started to animate the planets, first I animated the purple planet.
For the purple planet I used the scale option to increase and decrease the
size throughout the animation. Though I copied the first key frame and
pasted it to the last second of the animation, so it creates a loop.
Secondly, for the pink planet I used the rotation option to make it rotate
into 1 full circle. Lastly, the green planet was animated using the
rotation option. But I used a different method to animate the green
planet, which is making it rotate first and making it reverse half-way. I
also copied the first key frame and pasted it onto the last second, so
that it creates a loop.
Figure 1.3.2 step 2 after effects (20/12/2024, week 13)
For the shooting stars, I used the position option to make it go from the
top right corner to the left surface corner. I also shortened the duration
and duplicated it to resemble a real shooting star.
Figure 1.3.3 step 3 after effects (20/12/2024, week 13)
Finally, I added the background sound, reverbed it, and reduced the
volume.
Figure 1.3.4 step 4 after effects (20/12/2024, week 13)
I also added some sound effects for the stars, and the I proceeded to
reverb it and duplicate it. So that every time a star passes by, there
will be a sound effect. I also reduced the volume of the audio beforehand.

FEEDBACK
Mr. Fauzi gave me some feedback regarding the sketches I made. Out of the
three sketches, Mr. Fauzi recommended me to move forward with the first
sketch.
REFLECTION
Throughout the making of this project, I have learned some new tools on
Photoshop. Some new tools that I learned to use were the remove tool and the
patch tool. I have also learned more about the previous tools I have
learned. In addition, I have also learned on how to operate After Effects
better. When me and my peers were assigned to make this project, I couldn't
help but notice that a lot of my classmates have a better and clearer
understanding on how to operate the software. This made me much more
motivated to improve on my skills when operating the software. I realized
that with enough and consistent practice, I can easily learn on how to use
new tools. Though, I wished that I could have given myself some more time to
learn the tools on the software.
