PROJECT

AUDIO DUBBING EXERCISE : SOUND FOR VISUAL

Mr. Martin formed us into groups to identify and compile all the sound effects needed from the video clip given to help each of us do our own audio dubbing exercise. To complete this exercise, I firstly recorded my voice according to the dialogue. After that I moved all the files to Premiere Pro and arranged all the dialogues of the characters. I also shorten some of the audio files so it is more accurate when I am editing it. Then I continued to add the Pitch Shifter effect on each dialogue audio. Lastly, I added the sound effects and the ambience sounds. For all the sound effects and ambience sounds, I used the Pixabay web to download all the needed audio.

AUDIO EDITING EXERCISE : SOUND SHAPING

We were tasked to record our own voice speaking our own language which will then be edited according to these circumstances:
  1. Voice of phone call
  2. Voice coming from inside of the closet
  3. Underground cave
  4. Alien voice
After I recorded my own voice, Mr. Martin gave us a tutorial on how to edit the audio.

First, I added the audio file and created multitrack sessions for each of the different circumstances. For the phone call and the voice from inside the the closet, I edited the audio by adding the Filter and EQ effect and adjusted the Parametic Equalizer to make the audio sound like its on a phone call and coming from inside a closet.

For the underground cave and the alien voice, I used the Reverb effect and adjusted it to change my own voice to sound like its coming from an underground cave. Lastly, the alien voice I edited it by adjusting the Pitch Shifter effect.

FEEDBACK

Week 5
Mr. Martin told me to eliminate the suspense music and increase the ambience sound.

REFLECTION

During the making of both of the first exercise, I did have a bit of trouble understanding on how to change my own voice to sound like the characters on the clip. But, once I got a better understanding it was very interesting and fun, I even added some other audios and sound effects to make it sound like the original clip. When we were tasked to make the second exercise, I thought that it would not be as complicated as the first one. Though, I had a difficult time making my own voice sound like it was under the circumstances given. I had a lot of trouble especially on adjusting the Parametic Equalizer. Though I had a lot of fun when I was editing the underground cave and the alien voice. I find it fun maybe because I didn't sound like myself at all. However, I did have a lot of fun making these exercises since I had to change the sound of my own voice to sound like something else which is interesting too.

Through out the period of making the first exercise, I used various tools to make it sound like the original. As for the second exercise, I added effects to my own voice to make it sound like it was under the circumstances given. During the making of these exercises, I took more time to understand how to make both of the exercises compared to my peers. I do think that I can improve on my skill more by spending more time and experimenting more on how to sound shape since I had difficulties on that exercise.

Completing both of these exercises made me learn more about how videos or movies are actually made and it also made me appreciate it more. I also learned new skills on several new software and gotten a better understanding of the different tools. I learned that I might have an interest in the editing industry, because I had a lot of fun even though there are some difficulties. I do want to improve on my skills when it comes to sound shaping because I think that I can do better and make it sound much more believable to the circumstances.
