LECTURE

On this week's lecture, Mr. Fauzi explained about double exposure and image blending mode.

Double Exposure Photography
= Imply to combining several photos to create a surreal, emotional, and humorous photo that usually conclude a silhouette.

How to turn simple photoshoots into amazing pieces:
  1. Using the tilt-shift effect
  2. Create a fake reflection
  3. Experiment with simple portraits and details textured
  4. Convert results to black & white
  5. Work with silhouettes
  6. Pick 2 random photos
  7. Make simple objects look interesting
  8. Use shadow
Here are a few prior examples of the numbered list above:

Blend Modes

A specific blending mode that works really well on complex objects glass, smoke, fire, and lightning. This a a example of using blending mode:

PRACTICAL

This week, we were assigned to do the Hearst Mansion practical. It is a project where it requires us to edit ourselves and shazam in photoshop, and place it in the Hearst Mansion background. To get a better understanding on how I should do this project, I started watching the tutorial video given first. To start, I first used the quick selection tool to edit shazam out of the background and copied it to the Hearst Mansion background.

Then I used the free transform tool to re-size shazam into the right size and matched the color to the background.

After that, I added some shadows behind shazam on a new layer using the brush tool and the Gaussian blur. Before using the blur effect, I reduced the opacity of the brush tool first.

Next, I added the reflection on the water by making another layer first with the copy of shazam and turning it upside down. Secondly, I traced the part that I wanted to keep for the reflection. After it was selected, I proceeded make adjustments by changing the brightness, contrast, and hue/saturation. Then I added a Gaussian blur effect to make it look more realistic.

Finally, I made some adjustments to parts that I don't feel satisfied with with the help of the tools I used to make the final piece.

FINAL SHAZAM HEARST MANSION

Following that, I then started another Hearst Mansion project using my own picture. We were told beforehand to take eye-leveled pictures to edit with. Here is the picture I decided to use=

After I took the photo, I opened it in Photoshop and used the quick selection tool to edit myself out of the background. Next, I copied the area I selected and pasted it onto the Hearst Mansion background. After that, I immediately used the free transform tool and re-sized my self to fit the background.

Then, I used the adjustment setting and the match color option to edit myself so the lighting of my photo can fit onto the background. After that, I made another layer to put shadows in by using the brush tool. Which, I then reduced the opacity of and added a Gaussian blur effect to make it look more realistic.

After making the shadows, I continued to make the reflection of myself in the water by copying the layer of myself and turning it upside down. Following that, I placed the reflection layer accordingly and cut out the area I didn't need to use using the pen tool.

To make it look more like a reflection, I reduced the opacity and used the adjustment setting to adjust the brightness, contrast, and hue/saturation. I also added a Gaussian blur effect to emphasize the reflection.

After I made some other adjustments using the tools I used before, to some parts I was not satisfied yet. This is my final Self Photo on Hearst Mansion result.

REFLECTION

During the time when I was assigned to do this project, it looks very challenging. I was afraid that I can't do it well. In addition, some of my peer friends were already familiar with the software. So, I was very anxious on how I did. But, I have studied and observed from the tutorial video provided and it helped a lot. Now, I have a better understanding on how to use photoshop and I am satisfied with the work I did.
