LECTURES

Week 1
Mr. Martin explained and gave us an introduction about the module and what we will be doing throughout the semester. Then he introduced us to infographic design and told us to make a PPT with out group to show our understanding of it. This is our PPT:

Week 2
On week 2, Mr. Martin explained what L.A.T.C.H is and told each group to create a PPT about it. This is the PPT we created:

In class, Mr. Martin gave us a tutorial on how to create the kinetic typography group task. We had to create a kinetic typography video from the song So What. We had to use a mp3 to create it and we had to make the composition first. Then, we can start adding and refining the animation based on the composition.

EXERCISE

EXERCISE 1: QUANTIFY & VISUALIZE DATA

We were told to gather data based of objects that we own and it has to be small and similar. Then we were told to organize the data and present it visually.

Data Object Choice: Candies

RE-DESIGNING A INFOGRAPHIC POSTER

As an exercise, we were told to re-design one infographic poster. This is the infographic poster I plan to re-design:
Fig 3.1 infographic poster from the internet

The poster above had a lot of information content which made it a bit hard to read. Therefore, I decided to focus on one aspect which is to focus on the COVID-19 symptoms. This is the re-designed poster result:

EXERCISE 2: L.A.T.C.H

We were tasked to create a poster that includes at least 4 principles from the L.A.T.C.H principles. We were given the choice to work with Pokemon, but I opted for Minecraft since I had a better understanding of the game. These are the references that I used to create my L.A.T.C.H poster:
Fig 4.1 Minecraft infographic poster reference

Before digitalizing the poster, I sketched how I want the poster to look like first. This is the sketch I made:
Fig 4.2 Minecraft infographic poster reference

To start, I arranged the top and bottom contents first by adding the title, graphics, and text box. I also sketched the size of the boss tower to make it easier to visualize.
Fig 4.3 L.A.T.C.H poster progress 1

Once I finished the overall content of the top and bottom of the poster, I started creating the boss tower. First, I made the biome/habitat of the elder guardian boss which is the ocean monument in the ocean. I mainly utilized the blob brush tool to create the biome. As for the elder guardian itself and the ocean monument, I got it from the internet. I also decided to resize the height of the biome box so that it can fit the poster. Lastly, I added some texture over it to make it look more like it is under the ocean.

After I finished on the elder guardian biome, I started on designing the ender dragon. I did the same thing as I did with the elder guardian and mainly utilized the blob brush tool to create it.
Fig 4.5 L.A.T.C.H poster progress 3

Next is the Wither, I also did the same thing just like the other 2 bosses. But, I added a orange layer to mimic a torch light since players usually summons and eliminate the Wither underground.
Fig 4.6 L.A.T.C.H poster progress 4

Last is the Warden, which I also created using the same method. In this part, I also created what the players can use to spawn the Warden (the one with sound waves).
Fig 4.7 L.A.T.C.H poster progress 5

To complete the poster, I created a background that can be considered as one of the biome that is more common which is the flat biome. Then, I added all the content and text boxes.

FINAL L.A.T.C.H POSTER

Fig 4.9 L.A.T.C.H poster result
Principles included:
L: Location
Bosses Biomes
  • Warden= Ancient City
  • Wither= Underground / Cave
  • Ender Dragon= The End
  • Elder Guardian= Ocean Monument (Ocean)

A: x

T: Time
Players can defeat each monster from bottom to top as they progress through the game and get stronger.

C: Category
Warden, Wither, Ender Dragon, and Elder Guardian can be considered bosses in Minecraft.

H: Hierarchy
The Warden is the strongest out of all the bosses and the bosses gets progressively weaker down.

REFLECTION

Through this exercise, I learnt different types of infographic posters. I also gotten a better understanding about infographic posters and the L.A.T.C.H principle. It was very fun, especially when creating the L.A.T.C.H poster. I liked that I can include a game that I like and create a poster based of it. I have seen some of my peers worked too and their poster results were very visually appealing. From this 2 weeks of creating and finishing the tasks, I have learnt that there are many infographic posters and that they all have different uses for it.
