EXERCISES
For our exercises, we were told to compile video clips of a "mints" and
"Doritos" ad. On our first week, we were also introduced on how to use
Premiere Pro.
EXERCISE 1: MINTS
The "mints" editing exercise clips were already in order, so I selected
the clips and used the "take and drop" technique to arrange it neatly. I
also renamed the editing sequence to differentiate it from the first
clip.
FINAL "MINTS" EDITING EXERCISE RESULT
EXERCISE 2: DORITOS
For the "Doritos" editing exercise, we were tasked to arrange the clips
that was given accordingly. Because the order of the clips for the
"Doritos" editing exercise was not in the right order, I used the video
I found on the internet as a guide(video link). Before arranging the editing sequence, I renamed it to differentiate
it from the first clip.

To finish this exercise, I imported all the clips and used the video I
found on the internet as a guide to put the clips according to the
right order. I used the "take and drop" technique to arrange the
clips.

EXERCISE 3: SHOOTING PRACTICE, SHOOT & EDIT
On week 2, Mr. Martin told us to record ourselves using the different
shots we learnt in class. After I gathered all the shots that was
required, I used Premiere Pro to compile all the videos and added captions
to tell what the shot is.

EXERCISE 4: STORYTELLING
LALIN
1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively? Describe
each act with ONE paragraph only.
Act 1
The movie introduces Lalin first, and Nut will be introduced
later on as their relationship grows. The setting for the
first few seconds was not clear since it was a compilation
of online media. After the compilation, Lalin was seen in
Sapporo, Japan sitting in her apartment. The way Lalin
isolated herself and her action in that scene shows how
unconfident she is with her true face. Then a flashback of
how Lalin was bullied in the past occurred on screen. The
hook was placed at the very beginning where we couldn't see
half of Lalin’s face, since it was covered with a mask.
After graduating, Lalin decided to move to Japan to study
and she started a social media account where she would post
her pictures with a lot of filters. She decided to post a
lot on social media, editing her face with beauty apps
because she wants to be liked. People keep following,
liking, and commenting on her post praising her beauty.
Act 2
The first obstacle Lalin faced was the translation she
made up in her head from people’s speeches, thinking it
was something bad about her appearance. Following that, is
when Nut firstly contacted Lalin on her social media
account asking her to translate his work. After their
relationship got serious, Nut would constantly ask Lalin
to show her face. But everytime, Lalin would refuse with a
reason. Eventually, Nut came to Japan to surprise Lalin
and see her in-person. Lalin was shocked and anxious
because she does not feel confident enough to show her
true self to Nut, since she thinks that he will hate
seeing her true appearance. When Nut asked to meet Lalin,
Lalin refused and asked Nut to go back home even though it
means that she will not be able to contact him again.
However, Nut still encouraged Lalin to read his book,
leaving it at the table before going back home.
Act 3
When Lalin arrived at the table to read Nut’s book, she
realized that it was about Nut’s effort to meet her again
and their relationship before. After reading the book,
Lalin immediately ran to the train station hoping that Nut
would still be there. When she arrived at the train
station, Nut had already gotten on the train and she
realized that she might not be able to see him again.
2. What is the inciting incident in the movie?

Lalin through the online platform asking her to translate
his work and Lalin agreeing, which turned into a more
serious relationship.
3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?

of himself to Lalin in Japan, where Lalin is currently
living. This made Lalin shocked, anxious, and confused on
what to do because she is not ready to show her true self
to Nut. Since she thinks that he won’t like her anymore if
she shows her true self.
4. What is the Climax scene in the movie?
The Climax scene in this movie is when Lalin read the book
Nut made and realized it was about them. After reading,
Lalin decided to run to the train station to see Nut but
it was too late.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE
1. Which part is act 1, act 2, act 3 respectively?
Describe each act with ONE paragraph only.
Act 1
Evelyn does her taxes at a small apartment setting and
throughout the scenes each of the family members gets
introduced. Waymond as a loving husband, Joy as the pushy
daughter, her father GongGong as the strict dad. They were
struggling with their financial situation. Then from the
flashback Evelyn had, it seemed that Evelyn left her
family to be with Waymond. The hook happened when Evelyn
was arguing with her daughter while Waymond can be seen
jumping everywhere in the laundromat through the CCTV
cameras. When the family arrived at the office to do their
taxes, in the elevator Waymond shifted to Alpha Waymond
from another universe and he proceeded to give an overview
of her choices where one of them is for Evelyn to go to
the janitor’s room, which she declined.
Act 2
The first real obstacle Evelyn went through was when she
was first interacting with various different universes and
juggling it back to back with her husband trying to
convince Deindre the tax worker in the real world.
Following that was the scene where she had to encounter
Deindre in another world. Alpha Waymond also had explained
much more about the condition of the other universe and
needs Evelyn’s help to defeat Jobu Tupaki. This was an
opportunity for Evelyn to prove herself, since she regrets
everything she had done in the past and feels like a
disappointment to her father. After accepting the mission
Alpha Waymond gave, Evelyn tried her best to defeat Jobu
Tupaki and save the universe. In the midpoint, Evelyn had
lost control but her husband helped her gain more
consciousness and reassured her to do the right thing.
From then on, Evelyn changed her goal to saving her
daughter and she fought with kindness until she reached
Jobu Tupaki which is another version of her daughter.
Evelyn was willing to do everything in her power to make
things right and bring back her daughter.
Act 3
After Evelyn had lost control for a bit, looking at her
husband and hearing the reassurance he gave her gave her
flashbacks to the beautiful moments she had with her
husband. That made Evelyn gain control and choose how she
will fight moving on. She decided to fight with kindness,
helping all the opponents she had to go through to save
her daughter by helping them for the better. From all the
hardships and obstacles to defeat Jobu Tupaki, Evelyn uses
it to reach her new goal which is to save her daughter.
When Evelyn reached Jobu Tupaki, Jobu Tupaki changed her
form to Joy. Evelyn and her family tried to hold onto Joy,
but Evelyn made the choice to let Joy go because she had
seen how much her daughter was hurting. But then, Evelyn
decided to talk to Joy as her mother. Evelyn said that she
will cherish very little moments she had with Joy and
support her. That conversation made Joy come back, and all
the things that had happened has resolved all the
misunderstandings the family had and saved the universe.

The inciting incident happened during the scene in the
office, where the protagonist’s husband shifted to another

them and the other universe. Which eventually, Evelyn

3. What is the midpoint scene in the movie?
The midpoint scene from the movie is when Evelyn learns
that everything she went through is just because her
daughter wants her to see what she has been going through.

and giving them a better outcome or something that
makes them happy again.

EXERCISE 5: SHOOTING EXERCISE 2
On week 3, Mr. Martin formed us into groups to shoot
different shots and also to identify the sound effects on a
video clip from the "Everything Everywhere All At Once"
movie. After all the shots are compiled, I edited it using
Premiere Pro and provided captions as the description of the
shot.

REFLECTION
Through the exercises given from these few weeks, I have learnt a lot of new
tools and skills in Premiere Pro. Not only that, I have also learned about
all the different type of shots in movies or such. In addition, I also
learned some composition techniques in cinematography. Before starting this
module, I have already got to know just a bit about Premiere Pro so it was
very fun that I get to learn much more about it. Though there are a few
times where I'd get confused since this is still considered a very new
software for me. I also had a lot of fun shooting and editing in these past
few weeks.
When I was completing the exercises, I noticed that I was quite quick on understanding all the different tools and how it operates. However, I noticed that it was hard for me to keep all the files and clips organized when I am editing. Even though I
might know where all the different files are placed on the tracks now, I am
afraid that I might forget the placement if I opened it again after some
time. Lastly, I noticed a factor that might have made me quickly understand
the tools, which is the amount of time that I invested on using the software when
editing a sequence. But, right now I am still trying to fix my organization
skills and I wished that I could have properly arranged my
files better earlier on.
From these exercises, I was able to learn many factors that makes a good
shot, storytelling, and I also gained a better understanding on how to
operate Premiere Pro. I did realize that I learn much faster and better if I
invested a lot of time in practicing and experimenting with the software.
Though for now, I think that I need to improve more on my organization
skills by investing more time on learning on how to do it properly. However,
now I do think that I have developed my skills to a pretty good level
compared to how I was on the first week. Lastly, the quizzes that were given
really helped me straighten out some materials that I was still a bit
confused on.
